So I basically just bought the Canon EOS R8 because I wanted to take good photos for my sisters outdoor wedding in Chicago which is literally in like ten days and im freaking out because I have no idea what im doing. I thought the camera just did the work but the lens that came in the box i think it says 24-50 on it just makes everything look kinda flat and boring like my iPhone and I feel like I wasted my money.
I really want those professional looking shots where the person is sharp but the background is all soft and blurry and pretty but I dont even know what that is called or how to get it. I spent almost all my savings on the camera itself so my budget is super low like maybe $300 at the absolute most if that is even possible for a good lens. Someone told me I need a prime lens but I dont know what that means or if I need to buy one of those adapter things to make it fit on the R8 because the holes look different on different cameras and I dont want to buy the wrong thing and have it not click on.
I saw something about a 50mm and an 85mm online but people were arguing about which one is better for faces and I got so confused and just closed the tab because they were talking about f-stops and glass quality and stuff that makes my head spin. Is there something cheap that will just work right away without me having to buy more parts or extra pieces? I really need to order this tonight so it gets here in time for me to practice before the ceremony starts next weekend because im supposed to be the backup photographer and I dont want to ruin her big day photos. Sorry if this is a really basic question I just feel really overwhelmed with all the options and I dont want to get ripped off by a salesperson. What is the absolute best cheap lens for portraits on this specific camera that wont break my bank...
In my experience, you should just grab the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM. It fits natively, costs way under 300 bucks, and gets you those blurry backgrounds easily. Its the best value out there.
