what is the best cheap lens for street photography on a canon r10? i just got this camera as a gift and im totally lost with all the different numbers on the lenses... sorry if this is a super basic question but i have no idea what im doing yet. im visiting chicago in two weeks and really want to get some cool shots of the streets and people downtown but the lens it came with is kinda big. i only have like 250 bucks left to spend. someone told me to get a prime lens but i dont actually know what that means? is there anything small that makes the background look all blurry?...
Unfortunately, finding decent glass for under $250 is getting harder than it should be, and it’s honestly a bit disappointing how expensive the hobby has become for beginners. I once tried to save money with cheap manual lenses and had nothing but issues with focusing... missed so many good shots in the city. I'd stick to the official stuff even if it costs a bit more because reliability matters when you're traveling. A prime lens just means it doesnt zoom. This usually makes the lens smaller and gives you that blurry background look you're after.
- Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM: This is the cheapest one and it’s very light. It’s great for blur, but I found it a bit too zoomed in for narrow streets when I used it.
- Canon RF 28mm f/2.8 STM: This is a pancake lens, so it's super thin and fits your small requirement. It’s slightly over your budget new, but you might find a used deal. Budget options are getting pretty slim these days.
