What is the best all-around lens for a Canon 90D?

So I've been shooting with my 90D for a few years now and usually I just stick to my 50mm 1.8 for everything because the quality is great but I'm starting to realize it's super limiting for travel. I have this huge trip to Kyoto coming up in exactly two weeks and I'm honestly kind of panicking about my gear setup because I hate swapping lenses in the wind and dust. I've heard the 90D sensor is really demanding because of the high pixel density and I'm worried about getting something that looks soft or just can't keep up with the autofocus.

Here is what I'm looking for:

  • Budget: ideally under $800 but I can stretch a tiny bit for the right glass
  • Range: something that covers wide to a decent zoom
  • Weight: nothing that's gonna break my neck after 10 miles of walking
  • Sharpness: needs to actually handle that 32.5MP sensor without looking like mush

I was looking at the Canon 17-55mm f/2.8 but it's such an old design and I've heard it's a dust magnet which scares me for a two week trip. Then there's the 18-135mm nano USM which seems convenient but is the f/5.6 on the long end going to kill me in the evening? I just really need one solid 'do it all' lens so I can stop overthinking this...

Honestly, I've been really satisfied using the Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM for travel. It works well on that sensor and the autofocus is snappy enough to keep up. Quick tip: dont worry about the f/5.6 too much for evening street shots; the image stabilization is killer. It's way lighter than carrying a bunch of primes and I've had no complaints about the sharpness for my prints.
