I finally saved up for a Canon R5 for my trip to Kyoto next month and now Im totally stuck on which glass to bring. I spent hours reading and everyone says the RF 24-105mm f/4L is the perfect travel lens but then I see people swearing by the 28-70mm f/2.
My budget is around $2500. The 28-70 looks amazing for low light but it weighs a ton. I need something that covers:
- Street photography
- Landscapes
- Portraits
Is f/4 gonna be enough for dim street shots? I just want one lens that can do it all so I dont have to keep swapping in a crowded street... what do you guys actually use on the R5?
Honestly, if youre walking all day in Kyoto, that Canon RF 28-70mm f/2L USM is gonna feel like a literal brick after two hours. Ive tried many setups over the years, and trust me, weight is the ultimate joy-killer on vacation. In my experience, the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM is the way smarter play for your budget. Its way cheaper, leaving you like $1200 in your pocket for better food or another lens. People always freak out about f/4 in low light but the R5 sensor is so good you just crank the ISO and it looks clean. If you really want that creamy bokeh for portraits, use the leftover cash to grab the Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM for night shots. Its tiny and super affordable. Your neck will thank you for skipping the heavy stuff.
