so I finally got my hands on a Canon R6 because I wanted to take better photos of my kids and our big family trip to Yellowstone this summer but I am honestly so overwhelmed. I thought the camera would just be ready to go but then I realized I need a lens and I have no clue what I'm looking at. my logic was that I should get something that zooms really far so I don't have to carry a bunch of stuff around. I saw one that says 24-105 and another that is 24-240 and I'm just confused if the bigger numbers are always better? i have about $1100 left in my budget and I really don't want to keep switching lenses while we are hiking because I'm clumsy and I'll probably drop something or get dirt inside the camera. someone told me to look at the f-stop numbers too but that just made my head spin even more. is there just one lens that is like the gold standard for someone who doesnt know what they are doing yet? I just want clear pictures without having to carry a suitcase of gear...
Since youre worried about dropping gear while hiking, I would suggest the Canon RF 24-240mm f/4-6.3 IS USM. Higher numbers basically mean more zoom reach for wildlife. Just be careful in low light because those higher f-stop numbers mean it lets in less light than the pro stuff. It fits your budget and you wont have to swap lenses in the dirt which is safer.
