Im looking for the best all-around lens for the new Canon EOS R5 Mark II because I just bit the bullet and pre-ordered the body but now I am totally paralyzed by lens choices. I have been shooting with an old 5D Mark IV for years and finally decided to go mirrorless for the autofocus improvements mostly.

I read a bunch of reviews saying the RF 24-70mm f2.8 is the absolute king for this sensor but then I keep seeing people say the RF 24-105mm f4L is actually better for everyday use because of the extra reach and the weight savings. I am kinda torn because I live in the Pacific Northwest and do a lot of hiking so weight is a big factor but I also take a lot of photos of my kids indoors where the lighting is usually pretty garbage. The R5II is a huge investment and my budget is capped at about $2500 for the glass right now so I cant just buy both.

I want something that can handle the 45 megapixels without looking soft but I dont want to carry a literal brick around my neck all day while we are out on the trails. Is the f2.8 really worth the extra weight and cost for a general purpose setup or am I just overthinking the low light stuff with how good these new sensors are getting at high ISO...
