I just bought this super expensive camera the Canon EOS R5 Mark II because my brother said it was the best one but honestly I have no clue what I'm doing and I feel so stupid. I'm going to Japan in three weeks for my first big solo trip and I want to take good pictures but I look at the lenses online and my head starts spinning. There are so many numbers and letters like RF and L and f/4 or f/2.8 and I just want one lens that does everything because I dont want to be swapping things out while I'm walking around Tokyo and Kyoto.

I spent almost all my savings on the camera body itself so my budget for a lens is maybe $1000 or $1200 max if I really push it. I saw one that says 24-105mm but then there's another one that looks the same but costs way more and I dont get why? I just want to take photos of temples and the city streets and maybe some food without carrying a giant bag of gear. Is there just one lens that is good for everything or did I make a mistake buying such a fancy camera... I'm really nervous I'm gonna mess up my vacation photos.

I totally agree that the 24-105mm range is basically the gold standard for Japan. In my experience, it covers everything from narrow alleys to wide temples. Over the years I've realized the lighter version is actually better for travel because your neck wont be screaming by day three. You didnt make a mistake, the R5 II is a beast once you get moving!
