Which prime lens should I buy for the Canon EOS R7?

So I finally bit the bullet and bought an R7 last month cause I wanted better photos of my dogs and my kids running around. The kit lens is alright I guess but I keep seeing everyone say you need a prime lens to get that blurry background look and honestly I am so lost.

I spent like three hours on YouTube last night watching reviews and now I dont even know what mount I need or if the lenses are even made for this sensor size. It feels like every video talks about full frame vs crop and my brain is just mush. I have about 500 bucks to spend tops because my partner will kill me if I spend more right now. I just want something sharp that makes my photos look like real photography and not just like my phone did it.

Do I need the Canon one or can I get those cheaper ones from Sigma or someone else? I feel like such an idiot asking this but can someone just tell me which specific lens I should look at without using too much technical jargon?

Dont sweat the technical stuff, you're overthinking it. Your R7 uses the RF mount, so just stick to those lenses. If you want that creamy background blur, save your cash and grab the classic nifty fifty. It is sharp, fast, and light.

  • Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM Honestly, for that price, nothing else comes close. It will make your photos pop way more than the kit lens ever could.
