Are there any current discounts on the Sony A7 IV body?

Anyone know if there are any actual sales or discounts running for the Sony A7 IV body right now? I'm honestly torn between biting the bullet on the A7 IV, finding a used A7R IV for the extra megapixels, or switching systems for the Panasonic S5II since it's so much cheaper.

I'm in NYC and trying to get this sorted before my sister's wedding in three weeks. Budget is tight at $2100 max for the body. I'm leaning toward staying with Sony since I have a couple G-Master lenses already but the A7 IV price just wont budge. Is there a specific site or educational discount I should check or am I stuck paying full retail?

I was in your exact shoes last summer before a big family trip. I was stressing over the price of the Sony Alpha 7 IV Full-frame Mirrorless Camera Body because it just seemed stuck at that full retail price forever. Honestly, im so glad I stuck with Sony because those G-Master lenses you already have are way too good to ditch for a Panasonic system, and the autofocus on this body has worked so well for me that I have zero complaints. Since youre in NYC, you actually have some really good ways to hit that $2100 goal before the wedding:

  • Go to the B&H superstore in Midtown. If you have a student ID or know a teacher, their EDU Advantage program is a total lifesaver. Ive seen it drop the price significantly, sometimes right to that $2100 range.
  • Check their used or open-box department while you are at the store. I recently saw a Sony Alpha 7 IV Mirrorless Digital Camera Body Used in mint condition for about $2050. Since its B&H, you can actually hold it and test it before buying to make sure everything is perfect.
  • Try making an offer on Greentoe. I used it for my last lens and was super happy with the savings. You can bid $2000 and an authorized dealer might just accept it to move stock quickly. The A7 IV is basically magic for weddings because of the eye-tracking... it makes life so much easier when people are moving around and you dont want to miss a shot. Stick with it and you wont regret it.
