Ive been shooting with my 5D Mark IV forever but I'm finally looking to jump to mirrorless for that eye AF because my keeper rate on dance floors is just not great lately. I've been eyeing the R6 for a while but with the Mark II out the pricing seems all over the place and I cant tell if the original is actually going on sale this week or if they're just phasing it out.
I'm based in Chicago and checked B&H but everything looks like the standard price still. I've got about $1800 set aside and need to pull the trigger before my holiday sessions start in two weeks. Has anyone spotted any actual Black Friday drops for the R6 Mark I or are they just pushing the Mark II?
Unfortunately, the current pricing is pretty disappointing. My experience with the 20.1MP sensor on the original R6 was frustrating during low light events.

It fits your budget and actually has the same AF tech as the Mark II, which is gonna be massive for your keeper rate on those dance floors. Just be careful though... the battery life is pretty weak compared to your 5D. Youll definitely need to carry a few spares in your bag. Also, make sure to think about the single card slot. Since youre doing paid holiday sessions, I would suggest being extra cautious about not having a real-time backup write. Just dont want you to get stuck with a dead battery or a card error mid-shoot! It might be a safer bet to look at used R6 units from reputable shops like MPB if the R8 feels too flimsy for you.
Honestly, current R6 deals aren't as good as expected.
