Ive been shooting on my old 5D Mark IV forever and finally made the jump to the R system last year with an R7 for wildlife, but man I really need a full frame for my event work. I was planning on picking up the R6 Mark II this week because I have a big wedding gig coming up on June 15th and my backup body just started acting all glitchy with the dual card slots.
I checked the usual spots like B&H and Adorama but the price is still sitting at that $2499 mark which feels high since its been out a while now. I was really hoping to stay under $2100 or $2200 if possible. I even looked at refurbished on the Canon site but theyre out of stock of course... classic.
Does anyone know if theres a hidden coupon code or maybe a specific retailer thats running a bundle deal right now? I dont really need the kit lens since I already have the RF 24-70 2.8 but if the price is right I guess I could always sell the lens later. Just trying to see if I should bite the bullet now or if someone heard about a sale starting this weekend for Memorial Day or something. My budget is pretty tight after buying that glass so every hundred bucks helps. Any leads?
Omg you definitely need to snag that Canon EOS R6 Mark II 24.2MP Full-Frame Mirrorless Body before your wedding! It is such an amazing upgrade from the 5D series. Try these tricks to save cash:
- Put in an offer on Greentoe. I have seen people get it for $2150 lately!
- Call the Canon Loyalty Program and mention your old 5D serial for a discount.
- Refresh the refurbished site at 3 AM, thats when they usually restock!
To add to the point above: Ive bought used gear for a decade. Try:
- Canon EOS R6 Mark II Body (Used)
- Canon EOS R6 20.1MP Body The original R6 has solid dual slots.
Great info, saved!
^ This. Also, those card slot glitches give me flashbacks. In my experience, a bad slot mid-reception is a total nightmare. Before I hunt down a specific deal for you, I gotta ask a couple things:
- Are you shooting high-bitrate 4K or just stills?
- Do you already have V60 or V90 SD cards? Data throughput needs matter because some bundles include storage that justifies the price for the Canon EOS R6 Mark II.
Just found this thread and honestly, I feel your pain with the pricing. It is so frustrating how Canon keeps the MSRP pinned at 2500 even when the body has been out for a while. I spent weeks staring at that out of stock refurb page last year and it basically felt like a personal insult after shooting on their platform for a decade. It is pure stress when you have a wedding coming up and the gear market just wont cooperate... Like someone mentioned, you really cant mess around with glitchy card slots at a wedding. If you are stuck, here is what i would try:
- Look for the Canon EOS R6 Mark II with RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM Lens bundle. Sometimes local shops like Mike's Camera or Samy's mark the kit down to 2200 just to move inventory.
- Check MPB Canon EOS R6 Mark II 24.2MP Body. They usually have Like New units for around 2100 and they are way more reliable than random eBay sellers.
- If you have a business tax ID, call B&H and ask for their corporate or pro sales desk. They sometimes have unadvertised discounts for working pros that can get you closer to that 2200 mark. The jump from the 5D is huge though, so dont give up hope. You are gonna love the autofocus once you get it sorted.
^ This. Also, the struggle with Canons rigid pricing is so real! I remember when I was looking to upgrade, I was cross-shopping with the Sony Alpha a7 IV Full-frame Mirrorless just because Sony actually lets their gear go on sale occasionally. Canon is like... nope, full price or nothing. It is honestly a bit of a personal insult after shooting on their glass for years haha. I actually managed to snag my Canon EOS R6 Mark II Body for way under MSRP last year by being a bit sneaky with student discounts. If you know anyone currently in college, have them check the EDU portals on B&H or Adorama. The discount is usually huge and it is basically the only way to hit that $2100 target without waiting for a holiday. Another thing that saved me:
- Check your credit card rewards portal for merchant offers. I had an Amex offer for $100 back at a big retailer that stacked with the sale.
- Look for open box deals at Best Buy. Sometimes people buy it, realize its too much camera, and return it two days later. You can get it for like $2050 that way. Seriously though, the autofocus on this thing is amazing for weddings. It is such a massive jump from the 5D4. I did a 10-hour day last month and the eye-tracking is just... wow. Youre gonna love it!
