Does anyone know of any current student discounts for Nikon cameras?

So I'm starting my sophomore year at NYU soon and I really need to upgrade my gear for a studio lighting class I'm taking in September. I've been eyeing the Nikon Z6ii or maybe even just a Z5 if the price is right because my budget is strictly under $1400 for everything including a lens. I did some digging and found the Nikon EDU program on their official site but honestly it just links to a bunch of articles about learning photography? It's weirdly hard to find an actual "buy here for less" button.

Then I checked B&H because I heard their EDU Advantage program is the way to go but when I logged in with my verified student ID the price for the Z5 stayed exactly the same as the public price. My logic was that there would be some kind of automatic discount at checkout but nothing happened, maybe it's because there's already a sale going on? I read somewhere that you cant stack student discounts on top of existing instant rebates but then other people say you can, its super confusing and I dont want to pull the trigger if I'm missing out on a couple hundred bucks in savings. Does anyone know if Nikon still does direct discounts or is it all handled through retailers now? I just want to make sure I'm not overpaying...

Unfortunately, the current Nikon EDU situation is pretty disappointing compared to what it used to be. Nikon basically offloads the entire discount structure to retailers like B&H or Adorama, which means you are at the mercy of their specific inventory and rebate rules. The reason you arent seeing a drop on the Nikon Z5 Mirrorless Camera Body is likely because Nikon typically blocks stacking student discounts on top of active instant rebates. It is incredibly frustrating when you are trying to maximize a strict budget.

  • Most EDU discounts only apply to the full MSRP, not the current promotional sale price.
  • The Nikon Z6 II Mirrorless Camera Body rarely sees deep student cuts because it remains a high-demand model.
  • Specific kits like the Nikon Z5 with NIKKOR Z 24-50mm f/4-6.3 often have better margins for discounts than body-only options. Honestly, the Z5 is a bit of a letdown for studio work if you eventually need fast burst rates or better autofocus in dim modeling light. You might want to consider the used market instead since these official student savings are mostly an illusion these days.
