Im losing my mind trying to pick a lens for my new X-T5. I have about 1000 bucks to spend and need something versatile for travel since Im heading to Japan in three weeks. Ive looked everywhere online, saw people raving about the 16-80mm f/4 but then others say it is soft and you should just get the 18-50mm sigma instead for the size. It is so hard to tell if the extra zoom reach is worth the potential quality loss or if I should just bite the bullet and go prime. Honestly, what is the best all-around lens for this body before I lose it?

Honestly, grab the Fujifilm XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR used if you can find it under budget! It is an absolute beast for sharpness. I took it through the streets of Tokyo and the rendering blew me away.

  • Constant f/2.8 aperture is magic for low light
  • Weather sealing handles rain effortlessly
  • Tack-sharp images across the range Forget the kit zoom, this thing is built to last forever.

man i feel your pain so much. honestly, this whole lens hunt for the x-t5 is a total nightmare and i was pulling my hair out for weeks before i settled on anything. it is just maddening how everyone gives such conflicting advice, makes you feel like you are gonna make a 1000 dollar mistake no matter what you pick. just a heads up though, definitely try to avoid buying anything heavy that is not weather sealed if you are gonna be walking all day in japan. i made the mistake of bringing a huge, awkward setup on a trip once and it basically ruined my back by the second day. you just end up not wanting to carry the camera at all which is the worst possible outcome.

Skip the heavy glass and grab the Fujifilm XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS. It is super sharp, pocket-friendly, and saves you cash for more sushi in Japan!
