Leaving for Italy in four days and still havent picked a lens for my X-T5. I was thinking the 16-80mm for the reach but then I read it gets soft on that 40mp sensor.
My logic was more range is better but now I'm worried about sharpness... should I just get the 18-55 or something else?
> should I just get the 18-55 Be careful with heavy zooms. I took one to Rome and my neck hated me. Id suggest the Fujifilm Fujinon XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS instead. Its cheaper and way lighter.
Over the years Ive tried many travel setups and honestly, budget usually wins out for me. If you want the best bang for your buck on an X-T5, the Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD is the play.
- grab a used copy to save cash
- constant 2.8 is killer for those dim cathedrals
- much sharper than the 16-80 kit lens Italy is all about the vibe anyway, dont spend your whole trip worrying about pixel peeping.
If youre worried about that 40mp sensor being picky, the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary for Fujifilm X is a really reliable alternative. Its super compact and the constant f/2.8 aperture helps a ton for indoor shots... while it lacks the reach of the 16-80mm, the glass is sharp and wont weigh you down. This is a safe choice for travel if you want to be sure about your results.
