Just picked up an X-T5 and im finally moving up from my old X-T20 but now im realizing my old kit lens isnt gonna cut it for this 40 megapixel sensor. Im heading out to Glacier National Park in three weeks for some hiking and really need a solid wide angle for those huge mountain vistas and lake shots but honestly im stuck. I have about 900 bucks to spend maybe a little more if it makes a huge difference but i want to keep the weight down since i'll be trekking quite a bit.
Im basically torn between three lenses right now:
- Fuji 10-24mm f4 WR: I like the zoom range and it has weather sealing which is great for the park but ive heard it might not be sharp enough for the new high res sensor?
- Sigma 10-18mm f2.8: Everyone says this thing is tiny and super sharp but the lack of an aperture ring really bugs me since i love the tactile feel of the fuji dials.
- Fuji 14mm f2.8: I could probably find a used one for cheap but its an older lens and i wonder if the autofocus is too slow or if it just feels dated compared to the newer glass.
Has anyone tried these on the 40mp sensor specifically? I really want to make sure I get something that can actually handle the resolution without looking muddy when I crop in. Which one would you guys grab for a big hiking trip?
Ive spent years trying to balance weight and cost for hiking. In my experience, that 40MP sensor is picky about glass. I once took a softer lens to the mountains and regretted the muddy crops later.
- Grab the Sigma 10-18mm f2.8 DC DN Contemporary for the sharpness.
- Its light enough for long treks. Losing the aperture ring sucks, but the image quality is way better than the Fujifilm XF 10-24mm f4 R OIS WR.
