Whats the best one-and-done lens for the X-T5?
Ive been shooting Fuji for a decade but the new 40mp sensor is making my older f2 primes look soft. I need a solid walkaround for a trip to Tokyo next month. Budget is around $900... stuck between the 16-80 or maybe that Sigma 18-50?
I used the Fujifilm XF 16-80mm f/4 R OIS WR for a trip last year and the OIS is insane, but the corner softness at 16mm is real on that 40mp sensor. Honestly, the Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD Fuji X is a better technical fit. It resolves detail way cleaner than the old f2 primes and you can find deals under $700. Constant f2.8 helps a lot for Tokyo night shots.
Re: "Bump - same question here" - honestly, I was pretty disappointed by those third-party zooms. I had a scary moment where my Sigma stopped communicating with the body during a trip... not something you want in Tokyo. I'd skip them for something more reliable.
- Buy a used Fujifilm XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR.
- It is the only pro zoom that resolves that 40mp sensor properly.
- Weather sealing is actually trustworthy.

Honestly, im so happy with the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 DC DN Contemporary Fuji X. It handles that 40mp sensor way better than my old f2 primes. Its super tiny, which is a total life saver for walking around Tokyo all day. Plus, its way cheaper than the Fuji zooms. I saved enough cash to basically pay for my flight! No complaints at all, it just works.
