The original 56mm had that nice glow wide open but yeah, it definitely lacks the bite for modern corporate stuff. If you want clinical, the Fujifilm XF 56mm f/1.2 R WR is the successor you need. Fuji basically rebuilt the optical formula to handle the newer high-res sensors and the contrast is much higher. It is way more consistent across the frame than the old R version. Honestly though, for sheer resolving power and that scary sharp look you want, the Fujifilm XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR is still the king of the system. The MTF charts for that thing are basically a flat line at the top. It uses quad linear motors so the AF is instant on the X-H2S. If you have the space for the 135mm equivalent focal length, get the 90mm. It delivers surgical precision every time. Good luck with the Brooklyn gig, you got this.

In my experience, the only way to go is the Fujifilm Fujinon XF 56mm f/1.2 R WR. Ive tried many setups over the years and this one finally resolves enough detail for those high-end corporate jobs. For reliability, just make sure you keep an eye on your AF-C tracking. The X-H2S is fast, but you dont want it jumping to the background mid-shoot.

Stumbled onto this thread and totally feel your pain! Last month I did a big corporate shoot and realized my older glass just couldnt keep up with the high-res sensor anymore... it was a total nightmare! I absolutely love the x-h2s but it is demanding. To get that clinical look, watch out for:

  • Lenses without linear motors cuz they hunt.
  • Fringing at wide apertures which kills sharpness.
  • Glass not designed for 40MP sensors.
