Got an X-Pro3 for my NYC trip next week but I am so lost. Spent my savings and only have $350 left for a lens.
Sorry if this is a dumb question but people keep saying 23mm or 35mm and I dont even know what that means honestly... I just want to take photos of people. Which one is easier??
Adding my two cents... honestly, the technical specs can feel like a headache but it basically comes down to how much stuff fits in the frame. Over the years, Ive tried many setups and found that 35mm (which is a 50mm full-frame equivalent) is way more intuitive for beginners. It mimics how our eyes actually focus on a person. When I first started, I used the Fujifilm XF 35mm f/2 R WR because I was too shy to get close to strangers. The stepping motor for the autofocus is near silent which is huge for being discrete in NYC. If you need to save cash, the Fujifilm XC 35mm f/2 has the same internal glass elements for way less money, usually around $199. TL;DR: 35mm is a tight view (better for portraits and shyer shooters). 23mm is a wide view (you have to get physically closer to people).
NYC is wild, youre gonna love it! For street stuff, definitely go with the Fujifilm XF 23mm f/2 R WR. It is super fast and tiny!
- 23mm is wider, so its way easier to fit people in the frame.
- 35mm is more zoomed in, which can be tricky in crowds.
- You can find them used for around $320 easily. Its honestly the best setup for that camera, seriously!
Wow ok that changes things. Gonna have to rethink my approach now.
Subbing for updates
Good to know!
