What is the actual top-tier macro lens for the SL2-S because I am honestly hitting a wall with the L-mount options right now? I have been shooting professionally for over a decade mostly doing street stuff but I just landed a high-end jewelry gig here in Seattle and I am struggling. I thought my 24-90mm Vario-Elmarit would handle the close-up shots but the magnification just isnt there for the tiny gemstone details I need to capture and the minimum focus distance is driving me nuts.

I picked up the Sigma 105mm Art because everyone raves about it but the autofocus on my SL2-S is hunting like crazy even in decent studio light and its making me want to throw the whole rig out the window. Maybe I am just spoiled by the manual precision of my old M-mount gear but I need a reliable 1:1 macro that wont fight me during a session. Budget isnt a huge issue maybe up to $2500 but I need this figured out by my Tuesday deadline. Is anyone using the Leica 60mm TL or is the crop factor gonna mess with my workflow too much or should I just give up and get an adapter for some old vintage Nikon or Canon glass...

tbh be careful with TL glass because youll drop to roughly 10MP on that sensor. I would suggest looking at the Panasonic Lumix S 100mm f/2.8 Macro. Its a true 1:1 lens and the new linear motor tech might stop that hunting issue.

  • Use a manual focus rail for gems
  • Update your firmware to improve AF I can pull more data if you need!
