I just got a Lumix S5II and I am totally lost with all these lens options. They told me it takes L-mount but then I see Sigma and Leica and Panasonic and I dont know if they all work or what. I'm going to Japan in two weeks and I just need one lens that can do everything because I dont want to carry a huge bag. My budget is like $1000 maybe a little more if I push it. I'm so nervous about buying the wrong thing and wasting money.

  • good for landscapes and maybe people
  • not too heavy
  • under $1100

Is there like a gold standard for this? I keep seeing 24-105 but then people say 28-70 is better and I'm just confused...

I've used it for ages and it basically never leaves my camera. Since you have the S5II, the stabilization works together perfectly with the body. It covers everything from wide landscapes to nice portraits. Definitely the safest bet for a one-lens trip.

  • I definitely agree that a zoom is the safest bet. If you want something smaller and cheaper than the 24-105 tho, check out the Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary.
  • Its super light for walking all day.
  • Costs around $800, so youll stay under budget.
  • f/2.8 is great for evening shots. Its a really solid, reliable choice for a beginner.

Late to the party but I hauled a huge kit through Osaka once and regretted it. Do you plan on shooting mostly during the day or those neon night streets?
