Honestly I am so fed up with this 20-60mm kit lens that came with my S5II its driving me nuts. I thought I could make it work but the aperture jumping around every time I zoom in even a little bit is killing my video shots and its just not sharp enough for the low light stuff I have to do. Im actually really excited because I just booked a huge outdoor wedding gig in Seattle in three weeks and I finally have the budget to get something legit but I dont want to waste money on another lens that doesnt do everything. I need one lens that can basically stay on the camera the whole time because switching in the rain is gonna be a nightmare and I dont want sensor dust everywhere. My budget is like 1500 max maybe a little more if it's really worth it but I need something fast and versatile.
I was looking at the Sigma 24-70 Art because everyone says its the gold standard but then I saw Panasonic has their own 24-105 which has the extra reach and OIS which would be great for handheld. But then there is the new version of the Sigma too and I just cant decide which one is actually the best do it all workhorse for professional work. What is the best all-around zoom lens for Panasonic L-mount cameras that wont let me down?
Grab these!
- Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN II Art: Amazing f/2.8 speed but kinda heavy.
- Panasonic Lumix S 24-105mm f/4 Macro OIS: Great reach but f/4 is too slow. Love the Sigma!
Saw this earlier... be careful with weather sealing in a Seattle downpour. I would suggest looking at the Panasonic Lumix S PRO 24-70mm f/2.8 instead of the kit glass. Its built like an absolute tank. Just make sure to check the used market to stay near your budget. That constant aperture and focus clutch make a huge difference when things get hectic during a live ceremony... definitely worth the extra weight tho.
