I just got the Lumix S5II and it is my first real camera so please go easy on me if this is a silly question. I dont really understand all the numbers on lenses yet like the mm stuff and the f stop thing. I am looking for just one lens that can do a bit of everything because I am going on a trip to Japan next month and I dont want to be swapping glass while I am walking around Tokyo. I want to take photos of buildings and also some street food but my budget is pretty tight now after buying the body, maybe like $1000 or so. What is the best all-around zoom lens that I can just leave on the camera the whole time?...

Since you are just starting out, you might want to consider the Panasonic LUMIX S 24-105mm f/4 Macro O.I.S. for your trip. Be careful with lenses that lack stabilization. I would suggest this because 24mm is wide for buildings, while 105mm lets you zoom... much more versatile. Constant f/4 means your brightness wont jump around when zooming. Its very reliable, tho you might need to buy used to stay under $1000.
