Which prime lens is the best one for doing street photography on an L-mount camera? I just got the Lumix S5II and I'm completely overwhelmed by all the options and numbers. I think I want a lens that doesnt zoom but I dont know if I need a 35mm or a 50mm or what those numbers even really mean for the look of the photo.
I am going to Chicago in two weeks for a trip and really want to get some good shots of the city life. My budget is kind of small, maybe around $500? Sorry if this is a dumb question I just have no idea where to start...
I remember when I first took my S5II out to Chicago last year. Being stuck between those same two focal lengths was a headache. Honestly, the 35mm is usually the safer bet for cities because streets can feel pretty cramped when youre trying to capture the architecture and people together. Picking up the Panasonic Lumix S 35mm f/1.8 S-S35 was the right move for me because it's super lightweight for walking around all day. It fits right in your budget too, usually retailing around $450. The 50mm is a bit more zoomed in tho... I found myself backing into traffic trying to get the shot I wanted in the Loop. If you want to save even more cash, the Panasonic Lumix S 50mm f/1.8 S-S50 is even cheaper, like $350, but the 35mm just works better for busy sidewalks.
