What is the absolute best all-around lens for Nikon Z because I am literally at my wits end with my current setup. I've been using the Z6II for about a year now and honestly I'm so fed up with switching lenses every five minutes while I'm out shooting. I currently have the 50mm 1.8 and the 24-70mm f/4 kit lens but neither of them is doing it for me lately and I'm just getting so frustrated. I was out in downtown Chicago last weekend trying to get some street shots and then some architecture and I felt like I was constantly fumbling with my bag and I actually dropped my lens cap down a drain grate because I was rushing so much. It was so stressful and I missed like three really good shots of this vintage car because I had the wrong glass on and by the time I swapped it the light was gone and the car turned the corner.

I have this huge trip to Tokyo and Osaka coming up in like three weeks and I am genuinely panicking that I'm gonna spend the whole time looking at my camera bag instead of the actual sights. I need one lens that can just stay on the body like 90% of the time. I've looked at the 24-120mm f/4 S but then I worry it wont be wide enough or fast enough for night shots in Shinjuku and then I look at the 24-200mm but people say the image quality drops off at the long end and now I'm just spiraling.

I've looked at a few options but I can't decide:

  • 24-120mm f/4 S
  • 24-200mm f/4-6.3
  • 28-75mm f/2.8

My budget is strictly around $1200 maybe a bit more if I sell my current 24-70 but I just need something reliable that isnt gonna make me want to pull my hair out. I want sharpness but I mostly want versatility because my current system is just making me hate photography right now. Is the 24-120 really the holy grail everyone says it is or am I gonna regret not having something faster like a 2.8? I dont even know anymore. I just want to enjoy my trip without the constant gear anxiety and the feeling that I'm always missing the moment because I'm busy fiddling with my gear...

Honestly, there is no perfect all-around lens. Unfortunately, the one I chose was not as good as expected and I had issues with blurring during my last vacation. Truly disappointing.
