Honestly I'm about to pull my hair out because my stupid kit lens just stopped focusing right before my trip to Zion next week and I'm freaking out. I have a D5600 and everything I look at online is either way too expensive or looks like junk that will break in two days.

I really need something reliable for distance shots but I only have like 250 bucks maybe 300 max to spend on this right now. Ive been looking at used stuff but its so overwhelming and I dont want to get scammed or buy something that wont fit my dx body. What is the best budget zoom lens for Nikon DX format cameras that wont fail on me?

Like someone mentioned, the 70-300mm is the logical choice. Unfortunately, I had issues with the non-VR version and found it not as good as expected for handheld shooting. It was quite frustrating tbh. A more cost-effective alternative is the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED VR II. It is compact, reliable, and consistently delivers decent results while staying well under your 250 dollar limit.

> I really need something reliable for distance shots but I only have like 250 bucks maybe 300 max I've been super satisfied with the Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR. It works well on the D5600 and focus is actually quite snappy. Honestly, for Zion, you'll really appreciate the extra reach. Just make sure you get the VR version specifically so your handheld shots stay sharp... trust me on that. Its a great budget find.

@Reply #2 - good point! Honestly, those two are the absolute best picks for a budget DX setup. I love how sharp the 70-300mm is for the price! Since youre worried about costs, here are my quick tips:
