So I finally pulled the trigger on a used a6400 but now I'm staring at my bank account and panicking a little bit because these lenses are way more expensive than I thought. My budget is like $400 max for my next lens because I'm heading to a wedding in Seattle next month and I really want to get some decent shots of my sister. I did some digging and everyone says to get the Sigma 16mm f1.4 because the quality is insane for the price but then I saw some people saying it's actually really big and heavy for a compact camera like mine and now I'm worried it'll just stay in my bag.
My logic was that I needed something fast for the reception indoors but then I also saw the Sony 18-135mm zoom mentioned as the perfect all-rounder. But that one is f3.5 at its widest and I'm scared it's gonna be useless once the sun goes down or inside the venue. So I'm stuck between wanting that blurry background look and actually having a lens that can zoom in on the ceremony. Is there a middle ground that doesn't cost a thousand dollars? I looked at some Viltrox stuff too but the autofocus reviews are kind of all over the place and I dont want to miss a shot because the lens was hunting... should I just bite the bullet on a used prime or is there a budget zoom I missed?
> My budget is like $400 max for my next lens because I'm heading to a wedding in Seattle next month In my experience, a used Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 DC DN Contemporary is your best bet. Over the years, I've found f2.8 is basically the sweet spot for weddings on a budget. Its way lighter than that 16mm and honestly more capable indoors than the 18-135mm zoom... definitely the perfect middle ground for an a6400.
