im panicking a bit cause im leaving for Japan in two weeks and I just got this Sony A7C but i literally have no idea what lens to buy. i dont want to carry a bunch of stuff around so i just need one lens that does everything. sorry if this is a really basic question but i am so lost with all the numbers. i want my photos to look professional but im totally not a pro lol.
my situation:
- budget is max $1000
- need it for street photos and videos
- not too heavy for walking
- good in low light for night markets
is there one lens that can do all that or am i dreaming?
TL;DR: You should definitely get the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 because it is the safest and most reliable choice for a one-lens setup! I have used this lens on my own Sony setup for a while now and honestly it is fantastic for travel! Since you are heading to Japan, you need something that handles those gorgeous night markets. The f/2.8 aperture is incredibly important because it lets in a ton of light, which is exactly what you need to keep your photos looking professional and sharp when it gets dark. It is also way lighter than the Sony brand version, so it wont kill your neck while you are walking around Tokyo all day. This lens is basically a workhorse. The autofocus is super quiet and snappy, which is amazing for street videos! I wouldnt trust a cheaper zoom for such a big trip. It fits perfectly within your $1000 budget too, usually sitting around $700 or $800 depending on the shop.
- Constant f/2.8 aperture for amazing low light and blurry backgrounds
- Very lightweight and compact for the A7C body
- Fast VXD motor for reliable video tracking
- Weather sealed for peace of mind if it rains You are gonna have an incredible time! That camera is such a beast and this lens really unlocks its potential without being a total pain to carry around.
