What is the ultimate prime lens for Sony E-mount cameras right now? Ive shot Sony full-frame for seven years, mostly weddings in Boston, but my trusty 55mm f1.8 just started glitching and autofocus is hunting constantly. I need a replacement before my next gig in two weeks. Budget is 1500 max.
Been thinking about this since earlier. When I started doing event photography, I couldnt afford top-tier GM glass and had to get creative to stay under budget. Here is what worked for my journey:
- Sony FE 35mm f1.4 GM
- Got mine used for 1100, it is amazing in tight wedding spaces.
- Sony FE 85mm f1.8
- Super cheap, light, and autofocus is snappy. Let me know if you want some help finding reputable used gear sites.
Had issues with Sigma autofocus failing at a gig. Fred Miranda reviews recommend:
- Sony FE 50mm f1.4 GM: reliable but pricey
- Samyang AF 50mm f1.4 FE II: cheap but hunts
Omg you have to get the Sigma 50mm f1.4 DG DN Art for Sony E! I got mine on sale last year for family portraits and honestly, it is amazing. It saved me so much cash compared to the Sony GM, and the autofocus is lightning fast. Seriously, save your money and grab this one, you wont regret it!
