It is rumored Nikon will announced a new AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4 FL VR Lens to replace the AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4D IF-ED lens in early 2015. This new lens is expected to be very light and have Nano and Fluorine coating.

- Minimum focusing distance: 1.4m./55in.
- Filter size: 77mm
- Tripod collar will probably be sold s separately (just like with the Nikon RT-1 tripod mount ring for the 70-200mm f/4 lens)
