Ive been using my 2000D for a year now but my kit lens is giving me such flat results lately for people shots. I need a real prime lens for a graduation shoot next month but only got about $150 to spend. Does the nifty fifty actually look good on this crop body?
The short answer is yes, that focal length looks fantastic for portraits on your body, but there are some things you really need to watch out for. In my experience over the years, it behaves more like an 80mm on a crop sensor. It is amazing for tight headshots, but you might find yourself constantly backing up to fit people in the frame... gets kinda cramped. Ive tried many budget setups and the biggest danger is buying used without checking the glass thoroughly. People often sell gear with tiny scratches or internal fungus that you wont see until you get the photos on a big screen. For a big graduation shoot, you dont want to risk a gear failure. Just make sure the autofocus is snappy because a slow motor will miss those candid moments every time. Stay safe with your purchase and youll do great.
