Im literally hours away from giving up on picking a lens for my Japan trip next month. My R6 Mark II is great but I cant decide on a single travel lens. I spent all night reading about the 24-105mm f4L and people say the image quality is king but then I look at the 24-240mm and think that reach would be so nice for street stuff. My logic was that the superzoom is better for not swapping lenses but then i read its super soft at the edges? My budget is capped at $1200 and I just want one lens that stays on the body. Is the L glass worth losing that extra zoom range or am I just overthinking this...

honestly, dont stress too much about the edge softness on the superzoom, most people wont even notice it in real photos. that said, if you have $1200 to spend, i'd grab the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM. i used it for a similar trip and the f/4 constant aperture is huge for those night markets and dimly lit shrines in japan. the Canon RF 24-240mm f/4-6.3 IS USM is a decent option if you really need to see far away, but it gets kinda dark at the long end. plus the l-series has better weather sealing for peace of mind if it rains. you can usually find the 24-105 f4l for right around $1100 or $1200 if you look for sales, leaving you a bit of cash for extra batteries or a nice strap. just stick to one lens and enjoy the sights... you'll be glad you didn't carry extra weight!
