I am so sick of looking at spec sheets and YouTube reviews honestly. I just picked up the R8 because it's so small and light but now every lens I look at seems to ruin that or break my bank account. I need one single lens for a trip to Italy I have coming up in about three weeks and I'm totally stuck between two or three options.
Heres what I'm looking at:
- The RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM. It seems like the obvious choice but it's basically the same price as the camera and it's kinda heavy for such a small body.
- The cheap RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 STM. I love the price but that f/7.1 on the long end scares me for indoors or evening shots. Is it actually garbage?
- Maybe the RF 24-240mm? I like the range for travel but its massive and I'm worried it'll make the R8 feel super front-heavy.
My budget is strictly under $1100 since I already spent a lot on the R8 body and extra batteries. I just want something that can stay on the camera 90% of the time without making my neck ache after walking through Rome all day. Is the L glass worth the extra weight and debt or should I just get the cheap one and call it a day? I'm just worried I'll regret going cheap when I see the photos later...
Honestly, the Canon RF 24-105mm f4-7.1 IS STM was not as good as expected. It's unfortunately useless once the sun sets in Rome. Also, that Canon RF 24-240mm f4-6.3 IS USM is just way too chunky for the R8.
- find a used Canon RF 24-105mm f4 L IS USM
- or buy the cheap zoom + Canon RF 35mm f1.8 Macro IS STM Going cheap usually leads to major regret... trust me.
