Im finally ready to upgrade my old 80D and Im so stoked but the prices are all over. My logic was that since the R6 Mark II is out the original R6 would be super cheap but I cant find anything under $1800 brand new.

I saw a refurbished one on the Canon site for way less but its been out of stock for like three weeks now so I dont know if they restock those often. B&H has a bundle but its mostly junk I dont need. Is there a hidden sale somewhere? My budget is strictly $1500 for the body and I need it before my trip next month...

> I saw a refurbished one on the Canon site for way less but its been out of stock for like three weeks now Honestly, its super frustrating how Canon keeps those refurb listings up when they havent had stock in forever. I was in the same boat recently trying to find a deal for a backup and kept getting my hopes up only to see Out of Stock every single time. Unfortunately, finding a brand new Canon EOS R6 20.1MP Mirrorless Body for under $1500 is basically impossible right now because retailers are just letting their inventory run dry instead of discounting them further. Its not as good as we expected it to be once the Mark II launched... the price drop just never really hit the retail units. Since your budget is strictly $1500 and you have a trip coming up, I really suggest looking at the Canon EOS R8 24.2MP Full-Frame Mirrorless as a serious alternative. It basically has the sensor and autofocus of the R6 Mark II but fits your price point perfectly brand new. Just keep in mind that I had issues with the battery life when I tested it... its way shorter than the R6. Youll definitely need to budget for extra batteries which adds to the cost. If you absolutely need the R6 build, skip the new retail stores and go for a used Canon EOS R6 Body. You can usually find them in excellent condition for around $1350 on reputable used gear sites. Its better than waiting for a sale that probably wont happen in time for your trip. Trust me, I spent weeks searching and just ended up disappointed by the lack of retail discounts.

> My budget is strictly $1500 I snagged a mint Canon EOS R6 20.1MP Mirrorless for $1400 on used sites last week! Go used if you need it fast... amazing deals out there tbh!

Been thinking about your budget and honestly, finding a reliable Canon EOS R6 Body for under 1500 is getting really tough lately. What kind of shooting are you actually planning to do on this trip? Just asking because depending on your subject, the reliability might not be what you expect. I had a pretty disappointing experience with a unit I bought last year. It looked great but the performance just wasnt as good as expected once I actually pushed it in the field.

  • it started overheating way faster than the technical specs claimed
  • had some weird sensor artifacts in low light
  • the main dial felt loose after only a month Unfortunately, it failed on me during a crucial shoot. It really sucks that the official refurbs are never in stock because at least those come with a real warranty. Buying used from individuals is such a gamble when you have a trip coming up... maybe look into some older flagship dslr bodies if you need that tank-like build quality.

To add to the point above: everyone is right that the R6 is still holding its value way too well. If you are firm on that 1500 and need it fast for a trip, I would stop hunting for the R6 and look at the Canon EOS R8 Mirrorless Camera. It basically has the R6 Mark II's brain in a smaller body. You get better autofocus and the same 24MP sensor for like 1300 new. Yeah, you lose the IBIS and the battery is smaller, but for a trip it is way lighter. If you are open to other brands:

Just saw this thread and thought id chime in. Like someone mentioned, those refurb stock alerts are a total joke and usually just lead to disappointment. In my experience, the price on a brand new body like that rarely drops as fast as we want it to, mostly cuz the brands want to keep the value high for the newer versions. Over the years ive learned that the best deals usually hide in plain sight on the used market. I spent ages hunting for my own mirrorless setup and finally found a local pro who was switching systems. It felt risky at first but checking the shutter count and sensor myself gave me peace of mind. Saved me hundreds compared to the retail bundles that just pad the price with cheap SD cards and flimsy tripods. Definitely worth checking local listings if youre on a tight deadline for a trip... sometimes people just want a quick sale before they travel too.
