I need a camera for my sisters wedding next month and my budget is strictly $700. I saw some Canon Rebel T7 bundles on Amazon but everyone on reddit says they are basically fossils now and I should go mirrorless but those are way over my price point honestly. Are there any actual good DSLR deals happening for Black Friday or is it all just mirrorless now...

Tbh, you gotta be really careful with those Amazon bundles. People on reddit are kinda right about the T7 being a fossil... it works, but for a wedding, the autofocus is gonna struggle big time when the lights go down. I would suggest staying away from the Canon EOS Rebel T7 with 18-55mm and 75-300mm lenses because those kit lenses are basically useless in a dim church or reception hall. It is a bit of a trap for beginners honestly. If you're dead set on a DSLR, you might want to consider the Canon EOS Rebel SL3 with 18-55mm STM lens. It's a much better sensor than the T7 and actually has decent video. But honestly, mirrorless isnt as expensive as you think during Black Friday. Keep an eye out for the Canon EOS R50 with 18-45mm lens. It usually drops to around $650 and the autofocus is lightyears ahead of any cheap DSLR. It tracks eyes and faces which is a literal lifesaver for wedding shots when people are moving around. One big warning tho: whatever camera you get, the kit lens wont be enough for a wedding. You really need to save like $100 of that budget for a prime lens like the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM or the RF version if you go mirrorless. Without a wide aperture lens, your photos are gonna be blurry and grainy once the sun goes down or the dancing starts. Make sure to check the refurbished sections on the official Canon site too... sometimes you find gems there that are basically brand new but way cheaper than retail.

Late to the party but I gotta ask, are you the official photographer or just snapping some extras? Because if you're the main person responsible, that T7 kit is gonna be a nightmare once the sun goes down. I would suggest you stay far away from those 2-lens bundles with the 75-300mm lens. They are basically trash for indoor events. You might want to consider the Canon EOS R50 with RF-S 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM if it drops for Black Friday. The mirrorless autofocus is a total lifesaver for people moving around at a party. If you must go DSLR, maybe hunt for a Nikon D7500 Body or a used Canon EOS 80D Body. Just make sure you pair it with something like the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM or your photos will just be grainy blurs. Dont let the new sticker on the T7 fool you, its really old tech.

Saw this earlier but just now responding... I struggled with low light autofocus for years and didnt realize what I was missing. You might want to consider checking used listings instead.

Regarding what #3 said about "Saw this earlier but just now responding... I struggled with low light autofocus for years," I believe you can avoid that frustration without breaking your 700 dollar limit. While many push for mirrorless, I have been very satisfied with the results from older full-frame DSLR kits. They are incredibly reliable for weddings and the battery life is a huge plus. In my experience, comparing the entry-level Canon Rebels to something like a used Nikon D750 Body is a night and day difference. The low-light sensor performance on the Nikon is vastly superior for dim church settings and the ergonomics feel much more professional in the hand. Quick tips for your budget:

  • Avoid the multi-lens bundles as the glass is usually poor quality.
  • Purchase a fast prime like the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G lens. This setup should stay right around your price point and will actually deliver the professional look you want for your sisters wedding. It works well and I have no complaints about the autofocus speed on that specific body compared to modern mirrorless options in the same price bracket.
