Ive been eye-balling the Canon EOS R6 for a bit because my sister asked me to shoot her wedding in August and I really need to upgrade from my old 80D. I checked online and saw some talk about a potential summer sale in June but then I read a thread where people claimed Canon is basically done discounting the original R6 since the Mark II is the focus now. Its confusing because some shops still have it at full price while others have it listed as clearance but without a real price drop. Im in the Chicago area and my budget is capped at $1800. Do you guys think there will be one last big push to clear stock or should I just buy it now?

Honestly, waiting for a sale on the original Canon EOS R6 20.1MP Mirrorless is a waste of time. Canon shifted focus to the Mark II. Unfortunately, the R6 is overpriced right now for its 20MP sensor and those annoying overheating quirks. If you really want a solid wedding setup under $1800, look for a refurbished Canon EOS R6 Mark II 24.2MP Mirrorless during a Canon direct sale instead. The AF tracking is way more reliable.

Basically, dont wait on those clearance sales. You need reliability for a wedding, and waiting until June is way too risky! I recommend the Canon EOS R7 32.5MP Mirrorless Camera because it fits your $1800 budget and offers amazing performance. The dual card slots are absolutely essential for backup safety during the ceremony! You will love how fast the autofocus is compared to your 80D.

Been super happy with my Canon EOS R6 20.1MP Full-Frame Mirrorless for two years now. No complaints with the autofocus during weddings. Tbh, forget retail and check Canon refurbished... picked up a second body for $1,600 and it looked brand new. If you get desperate, the Canon EOS R8 24.2MP Mirrorless Camera fits your budget perfectly and has that newer Mark II sensor tho.
