Honestly I am so fed up with carrying a bag full of primes every time I go out with my X-T5. I thought I wanted the "pure" experience of shooting with the 23mm and the 50mm f2 lenses because everyone online says that is the way to go for the Fuji vibe but man I am just over it. I was out in downtown Seattle last weekend trying to get some street shots and it started drizzling and I was fumbling with my lens caps and almost dropped my 50mm f2 on the pavement while trying to swap because I needed more reach for a specific shot across the street. By the time I finally got the lens on the light had changed and the person walked away and I just stood there feeling like an idiot in the rain. It is just so incredibly frustrating.
The 40 megapixel sensor on this camera is incredible when it works but it feels like a total waste when I am constantly missing the moment because I am worried about focal lengths or getting dust on the sensor during a swap. I want something that just stays on the camera 90% of the time. I looked at the 18-55 kit lens but people keep saying it doesnt really resolve the full 40MP well enough and I dont want soft edges if I am spending this much on a high-end body. I have about 950 bucks saved up from selling my old Canon gear and I really need to figure this out before my trip to Japan in three weeks because I refuse to be that guy swapping lenses on a crowded train or in the middle of Shinjuku while my wife waits for me. I have looked at a few options but I am getting conflicting info:
- 16-55mm f2.8 (looks huge and heavy though)
- 18-135mm (is it way too old for this sensor?)
- 16-80mm f4 (heard it has some sharpness issues)
- 18-120mm (maybe too video focused?)
I need something sharp enough for the X-T5 sensor that covers a good range but isnt a total brick to carry around all day. I really want to love this camera again but right now it just feels like a chore and I am tired of overthinking it every time I leave the house. What is actually the best all-around lens for the X-T5 that can handle the high resolution without making me want to quit?
- I would suggest Fujifilm XF 16-55mm f2.8 R LM WR for sharpness, tho its heavy.
- Be careful with Fujifilm XF 16-80mm f4 R OIS WR, edges might be soft on that 40MP sensor.
