Which prime lens should I actually get for portraits on my X-H2 because honestly I'm about to lose it with the gear I have right now. I've been trying to make the 18-55 kit lens work for headshots for this local theater group in Seattle next month but the background separation is just non existent and it looks so flat. I even tried my old 35mm f2 but the autofocus keeps hunting on the new 40mp sensor and it feels like the lens just cant resolve the detail properly? Im getting really frustrated with these soft eyes and seeing the sensor's potential being wasted.

I have a budget of about 800 bucks maybe a little more if it's really worth it but I need something sharp and fast. I keep looking at the 56mm f1.2 but I hear the older version is slow as hell and the new one is way out of my price range right now. Or maybe that 50mm f2? But is that enough bokeh for a professional look? I'm honestly so torn and the pressure is building because I need to nail these shots for my portfolio. Is there a goldilocks lens for the X-H2 that wont break the bank but actually uses that high res sensor properly? I just want my portraits to look like the ones I see online instead of these mushy snapshots... what do you guys use?

I spent weeks fighting with my 35mm f2 on the X-H2 before I realized the sensor just outresolved it. I'd be careful spending on the old 56mm tho, its too slow for pro work now. I finally found a goldilocks lens.
