Honestly I am so fed up with this 16-80mm lens that came with my X-T5 kit. I bought this camera specifically for the 40 megapixel sensor but every shot I take looks soft and just... muddy? Its driving me crazy because I spent all this money on the body and the lens just cant keep up with the resolution at all. I was out at my daughters soccer game last weekend here in Seattle and the autofocus kept hunting and missing focus on her while she was running and I just ended up with a bunch of blurry junk. I really thought this setup would be a massive upgrade from my old Canon but right now I feel like I wasted my money.

I need something that is actually sharp across the whole frame and fast enough to keep up with kids. I have about 1100 dollars saved up for a replacement and I need it before our trip to Japan next month because I am NOT taking this 16-80 with me again. I just want one lens I can leave on the camera most of the time without feeling like I'm compromising on image quality every single time I press the shutter. What is the best all-around zoom lens for Fujifilm X-T5 that actually takes advantage of that high res sensor?

Are you shooting wide or needing reach? I once missed soccer shots too! The Fujifilm XF 18-120mm f/4 LM PZ WR is technically fantastic for tracking and stays super sharp.

The 16-80 really struggles with that 40MP sensor tbh. I would suggest looking at the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary for Fujifilm X for sharpness, but be careful since it lacks an aperture ring. You might also consider the Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD for Fujifilm X tho. Its great for soccer, just make sure you can handle the bulk in Japan. Both autofocus way faster than your current kit lens.

Honestly, Im super satisfied with the Fujifilm XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR. Its incredibly sharp on the XT5 sensor and way faster... youll love it for Japan. Just ask if you need help!

To add to the point above: I saw this earlier today and just had to jump in because it makes me so frustrated! It is honestly ridiculous how these manufacturers push these massive 40MP sensors and then pair them with glass that can't even resolve that detail. It feels like such a scam when you shell out thousands for a premium body just to get soft, muddy results!

  • The reliability of these modern lenses is a huge concern, especially for a big trip like Japan.
  • Having autofocus hunt during a once-in-a-lifetime moment is basically a gear failure in my eyes.
  • Companies are charging more than ever while build quality and consistency seem to be dropping. It drives me crazy that we have to do so much homework just to find gear that actually works as advertised! You should be able to trust the kit, but instead, it's a total gamble every time you press that shutter...
