I just pulled the trigger on a used SL2 and honestly my bank account is screaming but now im in a bit of a panic because I have a high-end portrait session booked for a couple out in the Hamptons in literally ten days and I realized I dont actually have a dedicated portrait prime for this system yet. Ive been adapting some older M glass but the manual focus is just too slow for what I need to do with these clients since they move around a lot and I need that eye autofocus to actually work. I have about 5000 bucks left in the gear budget for this year and I am torn between three very different paths and I need to make a decision by Monday so I can get it shipped in time for the shoot.

The main ones im looking at right now are:

  • Leica 75mm f2 APO Summicron-SL: everyone says this is the gold standard but man its expensive and f2 feels a bit slow for the price even if the optics are perfect.
  • Sigma 85mm f1.4 DG DN Art: its like a fraction of the price and I could use the extra money for lighting but im worried about the color rendering matching the SL2 sensor or if itll look too clinical compared to native glass.
  • Panasonic Lumix S PRO 50mm f1.4: I know it is a 50 but the rendering is supposed to be magical and it is L-mount native so it should play nice but it is absolutely massive.

The 75mm seems like the most versatile for full body and tighter shots but the Sigma 85mm is such a tempting value play and that f1.4 is really nice for blowing out backgrounds if the location ends up being messy. Weight is also a huge factor for me because the SL2 is already a tank and I dont want to be exhausted halfway through a four hour shoot with a giant lens. If I go with the Sigma am I going to regret not having that 'Leica look' for a high paying client or is the APO 75mm overkill for mostly digital delivery? I keep hovering over the buy button on the 75mm but then I see the Sigma price tag and I hesitate. Which one would you guys grab if you were under the gun like this?

> Leica 75mm f2 APO Summicron-SL: everyone says this is the gold standard Go with the Leica 75mm f/2 APO-Summicron-SL ASPH! Its absolutely amazing and that native AF reliability is the safest bet for a big shoot... you wont regret it! Holler if you need help!
