Which Leica L-mount prime lens should I get if I want to try street photography for the first time? I just bought a used Lumix S5II because I heard the autofocus is good and I really want to get into taking pictures of people and buildings but honestly I am so overwhelmed by all the options out there. I keep seeing people talk about the Leica look but when I look at the lenses some are like five thousand dollars and some are way less and I dont really understand why or if they all fit my camera.

I am planning a trip to Chicago in about three weeks and I really want to have one good lens to take with me so I dont have to carry a bunch of heavy stuff. My budget is probably around $1200 maybe a bit more if it is really worth it but I am scared of buying the wrong thing. Someone told me 35mm is best but then someone else said 50mm is the classic way to go and I dont know what the difference really feels like when you are actually out on the sidewalk. I tried looking at videos but everyone uses so many technical words like aperture and glass elements and my head starts spinning.

Is there a specific one that is easy for a beginner to use? I dont want something where I have to fiddle with settings too much because I am still learning how to even change the exposure correctly. Also does it have to be a Leica brand lens or do the other ones like Sigma or Panasonic work the same way since it is the same mount? I read somewhere that they all work together but it feels too good to be true lol. I just want something that makes my photos look professional without me having to be an expert yet. If you have any suggestions for a one lens only setup for a city trip let me know because I am getting pretty nervous about this trip and I dont want to mess up the memories...

For your Chicago trip, you cant go wrong with the Sigma 35mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary. It has that premium metal feel and 35mm is way more forgiving for a beginner than 50mm. Im really satisfied with mine and it fits your budget perfectly.
