I just got a Lumix camera because my friend said it was good but honestly I have no idea where to start with lenses. I'm supposed to take photos for my sisters small backyard wedding in October here in Portland and I really want them to look professional and super clear.
I saw the L-mount thing means I can use Leica lenses which sounds fancy but I dont really understand why the prices are all over the place. I have about 1800 dollars saved up for this. I just want the one that makes people look really sharp and crisp without being too confusing to use. Which Leica L-mount prime lens offers the sharpest image quality for portraits?
Youre gonna love the Lumix system!! Since you are doing a wedding, you definitely want something that is super reliable and wont fail you. The Leica name is amazing but you can actually get that same level of sharpness and save some cash for extra batteries or a flash.
- Leica Summicron-SL 50mm f/2 ASPH is the real deal for sharpness and that fancy look but it hits right at the top of your 1800 dollar budget.
- Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN Art L-Mount is my top pick for portraits because it is incredibly sharp! It makes the background look like butter which is fantastic for weddings.
- Panasonic Lumix S Pro 50mm f/1.4 is basically a Leica in disguise and feels so professional and solid. Honestly, the Sigma is such a safe bet and the quality is just unreal for the price!!
You might want to consider that actual Leica-branded glass is way over your 1800 dollar budget. Be careful about buying used gear without a warranty for a wedding, its risky. I would suggest the Sigma 85mm f1.4 DG DN Art L-Mount instead. It is surgically sharp for portraits and actually fits your savings. Tbh the Leica-branded stuff is great but kinda overpriced for a first wedding gig.
