What prime lens should I actually get for portraits on my S5? Im shooting my cousins backyard wedding in a few weeks and I need something solid. Ive been looking at the Lumix 85mm f1.8 since its light and fits my $800 budget perfectly but then I see everyone online saying the Sigma 85mm f1.4 is the king of bokeh. Im just worried the Sigma is gonna be too heavy to carry around all day and maybe the autofocus isnt as snappy on the S5 body? I also looked at the 50mm but I think I want that compression you get with a longer lens. Is the f1.8 enough for that professional look or will I regret not getting the faster glass...
Coming back to this... ^ This. Also, totally agree about the weight, itll kill your wrist after a full wedding day! If you want something super reliable and light, check out the Sigma 90mm f2.8 DG DN Contemporary. Its tiny but built like a tank and the AF is rock solid. Or if you want more reach, the Panasonic Lumix S 100mm f2.8 Macro is fantastic! Its feather-light and the compression is amazing for those outdoor shots. Love it!
> Im just worried the Sigma is gonna be too heavy to carry around all day and maybe the autofocus isnt as snappy on the S5 body? Unfortunately, the weight of the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN Art L-Mount really is a problem for long events. I had issues with focus hunting during tests, which was quite disappointing. My recommendation is to prioritize reliability. The Panasonic LUMIX S 85mm f/1.8 L-Mount is the safer choice. Its lighter and the native autofocus integration is much better for a wedding.
Great info, saved!
Seconded!
