Hello fellow photographers,
I recently purchased a Nikon Z8 and I'm looking for recommendations on the best landscape lens to pair with it. I primarily shoot wide-angle landscapes, often in low light conditions during sunrise and sunset.
I've been considering the Nikon Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S and the Nikon Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S, but I'm open to other suggestions as well. Factors I'm taking into account include sharpness, distortion, chromatic aberration, and overall image quality.
If you have experience with the Nikon Z8 and landscape photography, I would greatly appreciate your insights and recommendations. What lens do you think would be the best fit for my needs, and why?
Honestly its just ridiculous how much we have to spend these days just to get decent glass that actually handles a high res sensor like the Z8. Over the years Ive seen the prices for these S-line lenses just skyrocket while the builds feel more and more like plastic toys. It drives me crazy that after dropping four grand on a body, you gotta sell a kidney just to avoid terrible vignetting or soft corners at sunrise.
- The price gouging on first-party glass is getting out of hand.
- Companies just expect us to pay a premium for basic weather sealing that should be standard.
- Every new release feels like a minor tweak priced as a major revolution.
- Its a total scam that we have to jump through hoops with filters on these bulbous front elements. I really miss the days when you could buy a solid piece of metal glass that didnt cost as much as a used car. Nowadays it feels like you're just paying for the logo and some fancy marketing terms rather than actual innovation in the glass itself.
NIKKOR Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S lens is the best choice.
Big if true
Waiting for Tamron and Sigma to release some wide-angle lenses for Z8.
I'd suggest considering the NIKKOR Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S. It's a pro-grade lens that perfectly complements the Z8's high-resolution sensor, offering exceptional sharpness and beautiful rendering. If you need something more compact, the NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S is a great alternative, providing a bit more reach while still maintaining excellent image quality. For prime lens lovers, the NIKKOR Z 20mm f/1.8 S is a gem, offering a classic wide-angle focal length with superb low-light capabilities. Whichever you choose, make sure to factor in your specific shooting needs, budget, and the type of wide-angle photography you plan to do with your Z8.
Here are three of the best-selling zoom lenses for landscape photography that are compatible with Nikon Z8:
-
Nikon Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S: This ultra-wide-angle zoom lens is extremely popular among landscape photographers. It features a fast f/2.8 aperture, which is great for low-light situations and allows for creative control over depth of field. High optical quality, minimal distortion, and weather-sealed construction make it a go-to choice for capturing expansive landscapes.
-
Nikon Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S: It is a versatile standard zoom lens that can be used for landscapes as well as other genres of photography. Its excellent optical performance, reliable autofocus, and weather sealing make it a preferred option for many photographers. It covers a useful focal range, allowing you to capture wide scenes as well as more detailed compositions.
-
Nikon Z 14-30mm f/4 S: This lens offers an impressive combination of portability, versatility, and image quality. While it has a smaller maximum aperture of f/4, its lightweight design makes it very convenient for travel. The lens maintains sharpness across the frame, making it a solid option for wide landscapes without the need for a heavy setup.
Z 14-30mm is another great choice, it is cheaper than Z 14-24.
