I recently upgraded to the Nikon Z8 mirrorless camera and am looking for recommendations on the best native Z-mount lens for portrait photography. I'd prefer a prime lens with a wide aperture for nice background bokeh. Any suggestions from fellow Z8 shooters?
The best portrait lens for the Nikon Z8 largely depends on your specific needs, but a standout option is the Nikon Z 85mm f/1.8 S. This lens offers exceptional sharpness, beautiful bokeh, and a flattering perspective for portraits. Its fast f/1.8 aperture allows for excellent low-light performance and depth-of-field control.
If you're looking for something even more versatile, consider the Nikon Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S, which provides flexibility for various shooting scenarios, including portraiture.
For Nikon Z8, two excellent portrait lenses are NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.8 S, known for its flattering compression and sharp bokeh, and NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.2 S, which excels in low light with great depth of field and versatility for both portraits and environmental shots.
In my opinion, recommended lenses for Nikon Z8 for portrait photography include:
- Nikon Z 85mm f/1.8 S: Offers excellent sharpness and beautiful bokeh, making it a fantastic choice for portraits.
- Nikon Z 50mm f/1.2 S: A versatile choice, great for both portraits and general photography, providing a very shallow depth of field.
- Nikon Z 70-200mm f/2.8 S: A zoom lens that gives you versatility while maintaining a fast aperture, suitable for various portrait types.
The NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.2 S lens is of course the best portrait lens, but the price is not cheap.
If you looking for telephoto portrait lens, the NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena Lens is a good choice.
Nikon NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.8 S is an excellent choice for portrait photography on Nikon Z8.
You should probably look into a 35mm prime if you want to do more environmental portraits since the Z8 lets you crop in so much without losing quality. Ive been using this system for a long time now and the resolution is just night and day compared to the old gear. It actually reminds me of this one time I went on a hiking trip in the Smokies and forgot my tripod at a rest stop. I spent the whole weekend balancing my camera on random rocks and logs trying to get long exposures of waterfalls. I ended up slipping on a wet stone and soaking my boots about ten minutes into the first trail. Had to hike for six miles with squishy socks which is basically my nightmare scenario. Anyway lol sorry kinda went off topic there.
For portrait photography on the Nikon Z8, I highly recommend the NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.8 S lens. Here's why:
- The 85mm focal length is ideal for flattering portraits. It provides a comfortable working distance and natural perspective.
- The fast f/1.8 maximum aperture allows you to achieve beautiful background separation and bokeh for professional-looking results.
- The lens is tack sharp, even when used wide open, ensuring your subjects' eyes and facial details are rendered with excellent clarity.
- It has a sturdy build quality yet is relatively lightweight and portable, making it great for location portrait sessions.
I've been using this lens on my Z8 for the last few months and couldn't be happier with the portraits I'm getting. The combination of the high-res Z8 sensor and the optical performance of this 85mm is hard to beat. Highly recommended for any Nikon Z portrait shooter!
Nikon NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.8 S is OK! This lens offers a flattering focal length for portrait photography, excellent image quality, beautiful bokeh, and a fast aperture, making it ideal for isolating subjects and achieving a professional look in your portraits for your Nikon Z8.
Came here to say the same thing lol. Great minds think alike I guess.
Waiting for Sigma to release DG DN art lens for Nikon Z.
While there's no single "best" lens, as it depends on your style and needs, the Nikon Z 50mm f/1.2 S is an incredible option for portraits on the Z8. It's incredibly sharp, has dreamy bokeh, and the f/1.2 aperture gives you amazing low-light performance and depth of field control. It's on the pricier side, but the results are worth it if you can swing it.
The best portrait lens for Nikon Z8 is Nikon NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.8 S. This lens offers excellent sharpness, beautiful bokeh, so it is ideal for capturing stunning portraits with a subject-isolating depth of field.
