I'm trying to figure out which prime lens is actually going to do justice to my Nikon D850 sensor because I'm stuck between the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art and the Nikon 35mm f/1.8G ED. I finally upgraded to the D850 after years of using a D750 and man the resolution is no joke but it really shows the flaws in my older glass. I'm mainly looking for a solid 35mm for street stuff and some low light shots of my kids around the house here in rainy Portland where the lighting is always kind of gloomy.
The Sigma Art gets amazing reviews for being tack sharp but I've heard it's a total brick to carry around and I'm worried about the autofocus being wonky without the USB dock thingy. On the other hand the Nikon 1.8 is way lighter and cheaper which is nice since my budget is capped at about $750 or $800 right now but will it actually hold up on a 45 megapixel sensor or will it look soft? I also looked at the Tamron 35mm with the vibration reduction which seems cool for handheld shots but I haven't seen many people talking about it lately.
- Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art
- Nikon 35mm f/1.8G ED
- maybe the Tamron 35mm f/1.8 VC?
I need to make a decision by next week before our family trip to the coast so I'm really torn on if the extra weight of the Sigma is worth the image quality or if I should just stick with the native Nikon glass for better reliability...
> Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art Watch out for those autofocus quirks tho. It works well for me and im happy, but missing focus on that high-res sensor is honestly the worst... just be careful.
