im so over my current setup honestly its driving me crazy how heavy everything is. im heading to tokyo in three weeks and the thought of lugging a huge zoom around all day makes my back hurt just thinking about it.

so i was thinking maybe the tamron 28-75 because its lighter but then i worry about losing that wide end for the architecture. my logic was to maybe just go with a 35mm prime but then i cant zoom and ill probably regret it. i have about 1100 dollars to spend and im just stuck between wanting quality and not wanting to carry a brick. what are you guys actually using...

> unfortunately, the distortion levels at the wide end Building on that, you might wanna consider the Sony FE 20-70mm F4 G or the Tamron 20-40mm f/2.8 Di III VXD. Better architecture range, tho f4 is risky. Be careful.

i totally agree that the weight factor is a total dealbreaker for city trips, had a similar issue in kyoto where my kit felt like a literal anchor. honestly, i tried that mid-range zoom path and was pretty disappointed with the results. unfortunately, the distortion levels at the wide end were way worse than the technical charts suggested, and the corner sharpness just wasnt as good as expected for architecture. i remember trying to shoot the skytree and just feeling frustrated that 28mm felt so cramped... it really kills the creative flow when you're fighting the gear. losing that wide end for tokyo architecture is a huge mistake imo. you definitely need something starting at 20mm or 24mm if you want to capture the scale without carrying a massive brick around all day.
