Which prime lens is sharpest for the Canon 90D body?

I am seriously losing my mind with my 90D right now like I love the camera body its fast and the autofocus is great but my photos look like mush half the time. I upgraded from an old Rebel T3i thinking I was gonna get these crisp professional shots but honestly im fed up with my current lenses making everything look soft and blurry when I zoom in even a little bit. I think the 32.5 megapixel sensor is just too much for the cheap glass I have like the 50mm 1.8 is okay but it just doesnt have that bite I want. I am so excited to finally put some real money into a lens because I know this sensor can handle it if I just find the right match.

I have a huge family reunion and my nieces graduation coming up next month in Chicago so the timeline is tight I need to buy something in the next week or two. I really want that wow factor where you can see every eyelash and the texture of the skin without it looking like a smudgy mess. I've been looking at some Sigma stuff but then people say the autofocus is wonky on dslrs and I just dont know what to believe anymore.

Here is what I am looking for:

  • Budget is around $700 to $900 tops really cant go over a grand right now
  • Must be a prime lens because zooms always seem to compromise on the sharpness I need
  • Use case is mostly portraits but I do some street photography when I travel
  • I dont mind if its heavy as long as the glass is top tier
  • Autofocus has to be reliable because I am tired of missing shots of the kids running around

Has anyone actually found the holy grail lens for this specific body? I keep hearing about the Canon 35mm f/1.4L II but thats way out of my price range and maybe overkill for a crop sensor? Or maybe one of the newer Sigma Art lenses? I just need someone to tell me what will actually resolve all those pixels properly because I am ready to pull my hair out looking at these soft files...

The 32.5MP sensor on the 90D is a total lens-killer. It has such high pixel density that older glass just looks like mush when you zoom in. Since youre on a tight timeline for the graduation and need that biting sharpness, here are the best options that actually resolve that many pixels:

Re: "The 32.5MP sensor on the 90D is a..." - sadly most glass fails that density. Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art has higher MTF but AF is wonky vs Canon EF 35mm f/2 IS USM.

Honestly, the 90D was supposed to be an upgrade but it just turns all my mid-range glass into blurry messes. It is so frustrating when you can tell the autofocus hit the mark but the sensor reveals every tiny flaw in the lens. Searching for a decent option that actually resolves those 32.5 megapixels without costing two grand has been impossible. Most of the stuff in our price range seems to struggle with that pixel density. I am keeping a close eye on this thread because I am also tired of seeing soft files after every shoot. It really feels like a struggle to find glass that can keep up with this body.
