Honestly I am so fed up with my 5D Mark IV right now. It keep missing focus on the eyes during my portrait sessions and I am literally losing sleep over these shoots because I'm scared half the images are gonna be soft. I need to switch to mirrorless like yesterday but everything is so expensive and I'm freaking out a bit because I have a big wedding shoot coming up in like three weeks in Chicago and I dont have the cash for a brand new R6 Mark II at full price. I have been scouring the web for deals on the original R6 but everything seems to be out of stock or still way over my budget. I just need something reliable that isnt going to let me down when the lighting gets tricky.
Here are my constraints:
- Budget is strictly under $1600 if possible
- Needs to be in my hands by the 15th of next month
- Looking for body only since I have EF glass to adapt
- Must be a reputable seller because I cant afford to get scammed right now
Does anyone know if there are any hidden sales or maybe a refurbished restock happening soon? I checked the Canon loyalty program but they told me they were out of stock on the refurbished units. I'm literally checking my tabs every ten minutes and it's driving me crazy...
> I have been scouring the web for deals on the original R6 but everything seems to be out of stock or still way over my budget. In my experience, you should skip the big retailers and check MPB or KEH immediately. Over the years, I've bought plenty of gear from them and they're legit for pros on a budget. Right now, a used Canon EOS R6 20.1MP Full-Frame Mirrorless Body in excellent condition usually goes for around $1,450. Itll totally nail those low-light Chicago wedding shots. Dont panic, youve still got time to get it shipped!
Over the years I've learned that the best deals are rarely at the big box stores. If you need it by next month, check these out:
- Adorama Used. I've grabbed a Canon EOS R6 Mirrorless Camera Body there for around $1450 recently.
- Fred Miranda Buy/Sell board. It's the gold standard for used pro gear. I've never been scammed on FM if the seller has a solid history. Good luck in Chicago.
Regarding what #1 said about scouring the web, I agree, but watch the shutter count. Find a Canon EOS R6 Mirrorless Camera Body at B&H Used; they verify the IBIS and 12fps mechanical shutter.
I think I saw a post on a photography forum recently saying that the Canon direct store tends to refresh their refurbished stock early on Tuesday or Wednesday mornings. You might want to consider checking their site right at 8 or 9 AM EST because those units usually sell out in minutes. I am not 100% sure if that schedule is still accurate, but it is a common pattern for them. Since you have a high-stakes wedding coming up, be careful with buying from individual sellers on social media. I would suggest staying away from local marketplaces for something this critical because you really need that reliability for a professional gig. Not sure but I heard that some early batches had minor issues with the shutter assembly, so make sure to ask for a shutter count or a warranty if you can. I am cautious about recommending used gear for weddings without a backup, but if you find a reputable shop with a 30-day return policy, that should give you enough time to stress test it before the Chicago shoot.
