I've been shooting with my trusty old A7III for literally five years now and it has been a beast but man I am so ready for that 33MP sensor and the better eye-af tracking. Im finally pulling the trigger because I have a huge wedding contract in June up in Seattle and I really want that dual card slot peace of mind and the better colors.
I thought for sure the price would have cratered by now since the A7CII and all those newer models are out but everywhere I look it is still sitting at that $2400-2500 range which is just a bit over my $2100 hard cap. I checked B&H and Adorama and even tried looking at the EDU discounts since my cousin is still in school but the savings werent that great. I'm getting a little desperate because I need to have it in my hands by late May so I can get the menus set up and do a few test shoots before the big day.
Does anyone know if there are some hidden promo codes or maybe a specific retailer that does better deals on Sony gear? Like maybe some reputable grey market sites or just a local shop that ships? I'm even open to open-box if the shutter count is low but even those seem pricey right now. Where are you guys seeing the best discounts on the A7 IV bodies lately?
> I'm even open to open-box I would suggest checking MPB Sony Alpha a7 IV Mirrorless Body for used stock. I bought a body there once and saved $400, just be careful and read their condition reports thoroughly.
To add to the point above: I went through this exact struggle a few months back. Unfortunately, finding a legit discount on the Sony Alpha a7 IV Mirrorless Digital Camera is basically impossible right now because the demand is still through the roof. I had a few bad experiences trying to cut corners to save money.
- Used retailers: I ordered an Excellent condition body from a big used site once and it arrived with a weird shutter lag. Sending it back was such a hassle and it messed up my prep time.
- Fred Miranda forums: You can find them for $1950 there, but buying without a warranty for a big wedding contract makes me super uneasy.
- Grey market: Most of those sites are a headache. Theyll list a low price then call you to upsell a retail box or battery before they ship. It is honestly so annoying that the price stays this high even with newer models out. Maybe look for a used Sony Alpha a7R IV 61MP Full Frame Mirrorless Camera instead? It is older tech but the resolution is insane and the used prices are sometimes more flexible than the A7IV.
Open box deals have been pretty disappointing lately too tbh, mostly just 50 bucks off which isnt even worth the risk. I had issues with a like new unit that arrived with a scratched sensor once. Speaking of gear disasters, that Seattle trip you mentioned reminded me of a nightmare shoot I had there. The mist was so constant I could barely keep my glass clear.
- microfibers getting soaked immediately
- salt spray everywhere
- rain cover kept blowing off I ended up shooting most of the day with a plastic grocery bag wrapped around my lens. Looked like a total amateur but it worked I guess. Anyway lol sorry kinda went off topic there.
I love the Sony Alpha a7 IV 33MP Mirrorless! Try these:
- Greentoe: Amazing deals, slow shipping.
- B&H: Reliable used stock, but pricier. B&H is safer tho, dont risk it before a wedding!
