So I finally got the X-H2S a few months back mainly because I wanted that fast stacked sensor for wildlife and some video work but I have this huge trip to Iceland coming up in about three months and I am starting to panic about my lens situation. Right now my widest thing is the 18-55 kit lens and I know that isnt gonna cut it for those massive waterfalls and wide vistas. I have been doing a ton of reading online and honestly I am just more confused now than when I started.
The 10-24mm f4 seems like the logical choice because it is light and has weather sealing which I definitely need for the rain over there but then I keep seeing people complain that it is not sharp enough for the newer sensors even though the H2S is 26mp and not the 40mp one. Then there is the 8-16mm which looks incredible but it is so heavy and I dont think I can even put regular filters on it without buying some massive holder which seems like a pain when I am hiking 10 miles a day. I also looked at the 18mm f1.4 prime because people say it is the sharpest thing Fuji makes but I feel like 18mm isnt wide enough for what I want to do.
Here is what I am looking for:
- Budget is around $1500 tops because I still need to buy boots and gear for the trip.
- Must be weather resistant because... well, Iceland.
- Sharpness is key because I want to do some large prints when I get home.
- Weight is a factor but I can suffer a bit if the image quality is worth it.
I also looked at some of the third party stuff like the Sigma 10-18mm but I am worried about the build quality failing me in the middle of nowhere. Is the 10-24 actually that bad or are people just being pixel peepers? Or should I just look at something like the 14mm prime or maybe the 16mm? I like the flexibility of a zoom when I am on a cliffside and cant really move my feet much but I dont want to regret the quality later...
Ive found that wide zoom is totally fine on your sensor. I think the pixel peepers are just being loud.
- Sturdy seals
- Lightweight Not sure youll miss the primes.
